minutesThese buttery Minecraft biscuits are soft, crumbly, and perfect for decorating with colourful pixel-style icing. Ideal for birthdays, gaming nights, or cosy baking afternoons, this fun recipe lets you create Creepers, diamond swords, and blocks you can actually eat. A family-friendly bake that blends creativity, nostalgia, and a little bit of gaming magic.
Ingredients for the Butter Cookies:
1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 ½ cups (320 g) all-purpose flour
¼ tsp salt
- For the Sugar Decoration (Minecraft Style):
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Gel food coloring: green, black, brown, blue (Minecraft palette)
Directions
- Make the Dough
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. - Chill and Shape
Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in parchment paper, and chill for 30 minutes. Roll out the dough to about ½ cm thick and use square biscuit cutters for that pixel-inspired Minecraft look. - Bake
Preheat the oven to 175°C (fan 160°C). Arrange the biscuits on a parchment-lined baking tray and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just turning golden. Allow them to cool completely before decorating. - Prepare the Icing
In a bowl, whisk together icing sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Divide into separate bowls and tint with gel colours:
Green → Creeper blocks
Black → Outlines & Creeper faces
Brown and Beige → Dirt blocks
Blue → Diamond swords or water blocks - Decorate Minecraft Style
Use a small piping bag or cocktail stick to create pixelated designs:
Draw Creeper faces on green biscuits
Make grass and dirt blocks with two-tone icing
Add diamond swords and water blocks with blue icing
Use sprinkles or edible glitter for texture and extra “pixels”
Leave the icing to set for at least 20 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Chill the dough: Cold dough helps keep the biscuit edges neat and sharp.
Use gel colours: They give bold Minecraft shades without thinning the icing.
Sketch your designs: Planning your Creepers and blocks helps keep patterns tidy.
Make it fun: Turn decorating into a family craft session, everyone can create their own edible world.
These Minecraft butter biscuits combine buttery goodness with creative fun, making them perfect for children’s parties, themed celebrations, or a quiet afternoon of baking together. With their bright pixelated icing and melt-in-the-mouth texture, they’re guaranteed to be a hit with both gamers and food lovers alike.
